Health and safety disclaimer

Dry Home Advice provides general household information only. It is not a substitute for professional advice about health, housing, building safety, damp surveys, electrical safety or legal rights.

When to get professional help

Seek qualified help if you have widespread mould, recurring damp, suspected leaks, electrical hazards, structural damp, suspected rising damp, sewage/water ingress, or any health symptoms that may be linked to indoor air quality.

Mould and health

Mould can affect health, especially for people with asthma, allergies, immune conditions, respiratory conditions, babies, older people and other vulnerable occupants. If you are worried about symptoms, speak to a medical professional.

Products are not a cure for every damp problem

Dehumidifiers, hygrometers, mould sprays, window vacuums and moisture absorbers can help with some moisture problems, but they do not fix leaks, failed damp-proofing, poor building defects or unsafe living conditions.

Landlords and rented homes

If you rent your home, you may have legal rights and your landlord may have repair obligations. This site does not provide legal advice. Keep records, report issues in writing and seek appropriate housing advice if the problem is serious or unresolved.

Use products safely

Always follow the product manual. Keep electrical appliances away from standing water, avoid blocked vents, empty tanks safely, keep chemicals away from children and pets, and do not mix cleaning products.
